Perfect Score! Racine Quarry honored for safety achievement
Caledonia, WI - Vulcan Materials Company's Racine Quarry was awarded the 2007 Rock Solid Excellence in Safety Award by the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP) for safety and health excellence. The award recognizes aggregate facilities that set high safety and health standards in the conduct of their operations.
The award is the highest honor given to aggregate operations that have zero Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) reportable injuries and citations during the 2007 calendar year and scored a 30 or higher on a list of required procedures by the IAAP Safety Committee. This award marks the third straight year Racine Quarry has operated without a lost time injury.
As the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates, Vulcan actively promotes safe and healthy working conditions within their facilities and protecting the health and safety of its employees, customers and neighbors.
"It takes an entire company to make a facility safe," said Terry Browning, Vulcan's Midwest Division Manager of Safety & Health. "At Vulcan, safety is a value. It's in everything every one of us does every minute of every day."
Since the award program's inception in 2002, Racine Quarry has been honored four straight years. The facility, located on 1501 Three Mile Road, produces construction aggregates which are used to build and maintain area, roads, infrastructure, homes, schools and businesses.
"We are pleased to reward the health and safety leaders of our industry like Vulcan," said John Henriksen, Executive Director of the IAAP. "By honoring their leadership, this program encourages other companies to adopt systems and methods designed to prevent job related injuries or illnesses."
